Please note that EMS crews should not be continuously using the blue plastic “crush gasket” that comes on the oxygen tanks. Repeatedly used plastic gaskets have been known to cause injury and fire. Each oxygen regulator is equipped is an alumimum and rubber seal, which is safe to use. If the regulator seal is missing or does not provide a secure seal with the oxygen tank, the regulator should be changed and the equipment team advised so that a new seal can be installed. The crush gasket should only be used once (and removed from the regulator and discarded when the oxygen tank is changed).
