I hope that you had enjoyable holidays and have started the new year with renewed energy and enthusiasm in all your personal endeavours. I also hope that you’ve returned to your EMS activities with the same sense of dedication and passion. In this spirit, I am pleased to report on several exciting initiatives affecting EMS.
I am pleased that Michael Glazer has agreed to continue on as Chief of Operations responsible for much of the day-to-day operations related to the membership. All officers will report, through their chain of command, to Chief Glazer, who will report to Director Jordy Reichson, City Manager Tanya Abramovitch and myself.
2011 is a new year and time for a fresh start. In order to give everyone who wants to get involved an equal opportunity, we are wiping the slate clean. All officer positions are being vacated and a new structure created. Any member wishing to apply for any position will be able to do so. We are looking for dedicated, hard-working leaders who want to take responsibility for EMS and help shape its future.
I would like to thank all the current officers for their hard work and endless hours in filling these vital leadership roles and also for remaining in their present positions during this transition period. The new structure should go into effect on March 1st.
With Chief Michel Martel’s upcoming departure from Public Security, we are pleased to announce that Public Safety Director Jordy Reichson will be taking over direct responsibility for this service for the time being. While Director Reichson continues to oversee all aspects of Public Safety, much more of his time will have to shift to Public Security. As such, the EMS leadership team will assume a larger delegation of power.
A general membership meeting is being scheduled for next month. I encourage all members to attend this important meeting to learn more about the upcoming changes in EMS leadership, training, and more.
On behalf of Mayor Anthony Housefather and the Members of the City Council, City Manager Tanya Abramovitch and Director of Public Safety Jordy Reichson, I thank you for your ongoing dedication to EMS and to those we serve.
I look forward to seeing you at the meeting and on the road.
Glenn J. Nashen
City Councillor (Public Safety)
